Introduction to Stratospheric Ballooning Resources

  • Radiosondes do not fall under the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) for moored balloons, kites, amateur rockets and unmanned free balloons. But, it is worth your while to read these regulations.
  • Become familiar with the regulations for the transportation of helium.
    • Understand that shipping papers (for editable version, click here) must be included in the transporting vehicle when more than 440 lbs worrth of helium tanks (but remember not to exceed 1000 lbs worrth of helium tanks) are being transported.
